The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards

HR-Charlie-DavidsonWith more than 1500 entries, this inaugural wildlife photography competition, sponsored by Kenya Airways, was a side-splitting success

The winners of the Comedy Wildlife awards in conjunction with Kenya Airways, Nomad Tanzania, Natural High Safaris, Nikon UK, and One Vision Imaging were announced at a special ceremony in London last November.

The Comedy Wildlife Awards celebrated the animals that we are lucky to witness in the wild while playing an important role in raising awareness for The Born Free Foundation aimed at saving lives, stopping suffering and protecting species in the wild. The competition brief was ‘seeing the funny side of the majestic creatures we love to photograph and protect’.

The judges included famous comedian Hugh Dennis, Wildlife TV presenter Kate Humble, African Landscape Photographer Tom Sullam, Wildlife Photographer Will Burrard-Lucas, Wildlife Expert and President of Born Free USA Will Travers OBE, The Telegraph Online Travel Editor Oliver Smith, and The Comedy Wildlife Awards Founder and Wildlife Photographer Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE.

“It was a pleasure to judge the inaugural Comedy Wildlife Awards. The number and quality of the entries was fantastic. The finalists should be very proud of themselves, as should the animals they photographed, simply for looking so funny. Sadly there is no way of telling them.”
Hugh Dennis

“Judging was really difficult as we  had so many amazing entries, but in the end we found an incredible selection of technically brilliant photographs which are hilarious!”
Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE

“Judging this competition was always going to be fun, but it was also surprisingly difficult. The standard of photography was incredibly high, with a huge range of subjects.  Not only did we laugh a lot, we were also all reminded of the wide and wonderful variety of creatures we are lucky enough to share our planet with.”
Kate Humble

“At Born Free, the stories we hear about wildlife are, all too often, filled with gloom and suffering. So it is wonderful – for a change – to consider the naturally humorous side of nature. Baby elephants playing; lion cubs pulling their father’s tail; wild chimpanzees enjoying a game of rough and tumble – I have seen them all and they never fail to bring a smile to my face.”
Will Travers OBE
