The subtle art of Chai
Whether you take it ‘all milk with a little bit of water’, ‘straight black with masala spices’ (or without), Kenyan tea has a robust earthiness that is hard to forget. The country is one of Africa’s largest tea exporters, having been in commercial production of the plant since the 1930s. What starts out as a small seedling in a pot of soil grows into a vibrant green shrub that is later handpicked, dried and processed to become the much-loved tea bag that is known the world over. Limuru – situated on the outskirts of Nairobi – is a convenient and incredibly beautiful day trip. Visit the Kiambethu Tea Estate in Limuru for a bit of history, a farm tour, a homely buffet lunch and, of course, a cup or two of tea.
Don’t forget – Mother’s Day falls on many different dates depending on the country you’re
in. For those celebrating their mums on 10 May, may it be a day filled with appreciation and love.
