HR-Fruity-DawaTry this… Christmas Dawa
While the northern parts of the world are accustomed to sipping eggnog around a fire during Christmas, those of us further south partake instead of iced, boozy beverages on sandy shores. Here, we’ve given the Dawa – a proud Kenyan classic – a simple, fruity twist.

All you need is:
• 1 cup orange juice
• 2 limes sliced into quarters
• 1 tsp Angostura Bitters
• 1 tot Kenyan Cane
• 1 tbsp honey
Take muddler and coat the bottom-end in honey. Throw lime slices in glass and muddle till sufficient amount of lime juice has been produced. Pour remaining liquids into glass. Stir and serve with slice of lime on the glass’s rim for a bit of flair. Enjoy!

Restaurant review
Merry Coast-mas! Yes, you read right, here in Kenya the season to be jolly is all about sea breeze and sunshine. Here are two highly recommended culinary treasures that are off the beaten (coastal) path:

La Marina Restaurant
Situated along the lovely Mtwapa Creek, and shaded by tall coconut palms and mangroves, is the charming La Marina. The seafood on the menu comes straight from the nets of Mtwapa Creek and Kilifi fishermen. With grilled meat (including crocodile) tossed in chilli satay sauces, Mediterranean platters, and a chef who’s happy to take special requests, there’s something for everyone. This pristine location is perfect for sundowners. Give their Orange Blossom a try!

Boko Boko Porini
The strong Seychellois influence – for which Porini is known – is evident in everything from the lush garden setting, to the colourful attire of the friendly waiting staff. Their unique menu is a mouthwatering combination of traditional creole cuisine and local specialties. With occasional live music, the sights, smells and sounds at Porini make for a truly unforgettable experience.

“Dining with one’s friends and beloved family is certainly one of life’s primal and most innocent delights, one that is both soul-satisfying and eternal.”

Don’t forget to have a memorable, food-filled Christmas with loved ones wherever you are in the world!
