Mini-Dreamliner joins KQ’s fleet

B737-800NGKenya Airways takes delivery of its eighth B737-800NG

The latest addition to Kenya Airways’ fleet landed in Nairobi at the end of last year, after a record-breaking flight. The new Boeing 737-800NG flew from Seattle, USA, to Nairobi with only one stop (in Manchester, UK). Previous deliveries have required an additional stopover in Goose Bay, Canada, for refuelling.

Painted in SkyTeam livery, the aircraft flew non-stop to Manchester in 8 hours 45 minutes, cruising at an altitude of 41,000 feet, pushing the plane to its limit as per Boeing specifications. It then flew for a further 9 hours on to Nairobi.

The plane has the same interior configurations as the Boeing 787-8, leading to it being dubbed the ‘mini-Dreamliner’.

This is the eighth and final delivery of 737-800NGs leased from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), brought in to replace the ageing 737-800s in KQ’s fleet, further enhancing its position as the airline with the youngest fleet in Africa. Onboard was a donation of clothing and books from GECAS to go to various schools in Kenya.
